Summer at Milkovich June 21 - June 23

Summer at Milkovich offers over twenty courses that students can participate in that will keep them engaged this summer. Course listings are divided over the morning and afternoon. 

  • June 21 – June 23

    Register



    Cooking 
    Grades 6-11 

    Campers will spend two weeks learning how to cook healthy meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. 
    *Registration required



    1,000 Ties 
    *Boys ONLY

    1,000 Ties will enhance the quality of life for youth by teaching them skills they can use for a lifetime. With the help of men from the community, students in grades 6 - 8 in Maple Heights will learn these skills. They will develop their confidence to interview, network, and break the cycle of generational poverty, starting with something as simple as a tie.

    Camp Invention
     A confidence-boosting STEM summer camp where kids build creative inventions and lasting friendships. Led by qualified local educators, our camps offer new and exciting hands-on activities every year.



    Langston Hughes Book Club
    6-11 grade

    Program using the novel "Finding Langston" by Lisa Cline-Ransome paired with using "The Collected Poems of Langston Hughes". To build off the readings, students will have the choice to create their own works of art to include comics book on Hugh's life or their own poetry.

    Summer Book Club
    6 – 11 grade

    Students will be able to choose from 7 books and will focus on 2 books. Students will complete a book study along with arts and crafts that go along with the book. This will allow students to take a deep dive into the book. Students will be able to focus on the books of their choice.

    ACT Prep
    Students will have the opportunity prepare for the ACT assessment. Upon successful completion of the course the District will pay for students to take the ACT exam.

    Branding 
    Grades 6-8

    Campers will make various items and then learning to market those items to sell at one of the community events taking place at Maple Heights City Schools over the summer. 1wk. shirts, 2wk hats, 3wk socks, 4wk cups.

    Sewing/Crafting 
    Campers will learn to work with various mediums of fabric and crafting including the use of sewing machines and knitting/crochet.

    Finding Blank 
    findingBLANK will be providing Summer Programming at Milkovich Middle School for youth with a focus on various interactive art activities ranging from hip-hop dance, painting on canvas, hip-hop lyricist writing, ceramics, musical instruments, and much more!


    Exploring the Unknown/Math
    Students will learn to recognize and develop patterns using tables, graphs, and equations.  Students will solve problems using tables, graphs, and equations to investigate input and output relationships with and without technology.

    I Am Bella
    I AM BELLA is a self-esteem program designed to enable girls in grades sixth through twelve to live a vibrant future by restoring hope, dignity, and self-confidence.  The summer program is conducted within a four-week time frame and consists of various lecture and interpersonal activities that are fun, creative, and educational. The social and emotional learning components of the I AM BELLA program relate to everyday life situations and will help today’s youth better adapt to and succeed in our ever-changing society.

    Arts Inspired Learning
    Let's SuperHero It!  Students will choose a problem they would to focus on and design their own unique SuperHeor Persona that is equipped to tackle the problem. Blakk Jakk Dance.  This course teaches elements of African and Western, Caribbean, hip hop, jazz, and HBCU dance style.
